March 2019

Dear members,

Last year, SVDS raised funds to help build a shade structure at the East Lawn Children's Park, a beloved local playground.  Through generous donations from members and industry partners, we raised $10,125, enough to cover the entire cost of the shade structure.

The East Lawn playground officially re-opened this past Friday, and SVDS was honored at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. With members of the Sacramento city council and local news media present, we were recognized for helping to provide a sun-safe environment for all the children who will use this park.

I've attached some photos of the ceremony and our shade structure in our gallery.  Thank you to everyone who donated, and to all SVDS members for your support!

Josh Schulman, and the SVDS Executive Board

The new leaders have exciting plans for the future of SVDS. Please join me in giving them our full support and enthusiasm!

SVDS News:
It would be incredible to get you all more involved in the Sacramento Valley Dermatology Society meetings. Consider inviting dermatology friends and colleagues. Also please consider submitting your interesting cases for presentation.

To increase the role we play in the development of future young dermatologists, we are implementing a new program. Interesting cases presented at SVDS (especially the "case of the night"), can be written up in manuscript format and submitted for publication by a medical student/research fellow under the guidance of the SVDS member who presented the case. To increase the academic visibility of the SVDS, these manuscripts could include the following acknowledgement "This case was presented at the Sacramento Valley Dermatological Society on (date) (and was voted as case of the night)." SVDS is willing to reimburse any manuscript submission fees, if applicable, of $100 (or less) per published manuscript that includes this acknowledgement.

Thank you:
Thank you to all for coming out last week during the storm for a memorable evening sponsored by Skinceuticals with guest speaker Dr. George Hruza who presented on AAD Updates. I believe this was a fantastic way to start the year, spending time with friends - old and new!

We have some exciting plans for the upcoming year, with special events and memorable, educational and fun evenings!

Best,
Dr. Jared Jagdeo, SVDS President, on behalf of the SVDS Executive Committee
